Limarko containership Sonata was modernized in compliance with the latest international environmental requirements
The containership Sonata is the first Limarko Group vessel which was equipped with advanced ballast water treatment system compliant with the latest international environmental requirements. It needs to be installed in all ships by the year 2024. Limarko Group planning to complete the modernization of its whole fleet one year earlier. The obligation to modernize ships is set forth in the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM), 2004.
Limarko Group fleet currently consists of eight ships. The engine rooms of all ships will be thoroughly scanned in a 3D mode. Based on obtained images a ballast water treatment system with pipelines is to be designed and installed.
An advanced ballast water treatment system on containership Sonata was designed and installed by companies Western Baltic Engineering and Vakarų Vamzdynų Sistemos (BLRT Grupp).
